Negombo - midday & sunset.

Negombo fish

about Rs4 for the small fish...about 2 pence...

Negombo - fisherman's daughter

Negombo - black sails in the sunset.

ah... reminded me of an elvis costello song
these canvas-sailed catamarans cutting thru the Indian Ocean, probably in much the same way Marco Polo would have seen in the 14th century...

"Black sails in the sunset
White noise going yakety-yak
All the money in the world will never bring your body back
Is it some mysterious dance nobody can do?
Thought I knew all the steps quite clearly
I don't have a clue."

hmmm.

Negombo - a mini Rome

since the Portuguese were there, this small fishing town has had a majority of Roman Catholics

a fish's tale

the bones are left to dry in the sun, then cut up and grinded into meal.
and a big sack is sold for Rs35, about 15p... what a job....
